Why isn't a TV show or movie available in my country on Roku?

You may see that a TV show or movie is available on a streaming service, but not where you live. This usually happens for a few reasons.

Apps are different in each country

The providers of the apps available through the Roku App Store (like Netflix, Disney+, or The Roku Channel) decide what to show in each region. They choose:

  • Which shows and movies they offer in each country
  • The languages, ratings, and versions available
  • Whether to make their app available through the Roku Channel App Store

This means an app provider may offer a show or movie in one country, but choose not to offer it in another.

NOTE: Specific shows available in the United States might not be readily available in Canada, the United Kingdom, and other English-speaking countries. For more information, please contact the streaming service provider directly.

Content rights and licensing

Movie studios and distributors sell or license the rights to their content country by country. This means:

  • A show might be on one app in your country and a different app somewhere else
  • Sometimes a show is exclusive to just one service in your region
  • Some titles don't have a distributor in certain countries, so they're not available at all

Roku cannot make a show or movie available when a rights holder or app provider does not offer it in your country.

The Roku Channel and Roku-branded content

For The Roku Channel and other Roku content, we work with many studios and distributors to license titles country by country. A show or movie on The Roku Channel in one region may not appear in another because Roku does not have the rights to stream it in that country.

Why titles can change or disappear

Even when a show or movie is available today, it may be gone later because:

  • Licensing deals expire. When an agreement ends, the title may leave an app in your region
  • Rights can move to a
  • Apps update what they offer in different regions to appeal to viewers there
