The Roku player connects to the Internet through your home network using either Wi-Fi (via a router) or an Ethernet cable. Typically, a router connects to your modem and all of the Internet-enabled devices in your home, such as your laptop, computer, etc. Sometimes a router and a modem are combined into a single unit.

All Roku players are compatible with 802.11b and 802.11g wireless networks. The Roku XD, XDS and classic HD-XR are also compatible with 802.11n networks. All models also support current wireless security protocols, including WEP, WPA and WPA2.

To connect your Roku to the Internet, you’ll also need to know the name of your wireless network (SSID), and of course, the passphrase/security key if your home network is protected.
